The Customer

And Their Challenge

The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) develops and administers the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. In an effort to expand their service offerings and improve core business operations, FSBPT aimed to introduce a subscription-based reporting service specifically designed for Physical Therapy Educational Institutions. This initiative was intended to enhance customer relations by increasing the range of services available to member schools.

Confronted with multiple requests to make reports available on demand, FSBPT needed a solution that would allow school administrators to access their reports conveniently via a dedicated website. The project required a comprehensive enhancement of FSBPT’s current system, including the development of a user-friendly website for school administrators, the retention of existing reports for staff reference, migration of current reports to the new platform, and the creation of additional reports. This strategic expansion not only met the immediate needs of educational institutions but also positioned FSBPT for sustained growth and improved engagement with its stakeholders.

The Solution

Using innovative strategies, i3solutions revolutionized the FSBPT project across multiple dimensions. First, leveraging our best practices methodology, i3solutions determined the optimal strategy for designing and developing the new business objectives. We conducted a comprehensive assessment to identify the ideal business and technology architectures, reviewing existing FSBPT processes and defining detailed modules for payment and refund processing. This evaluation also pinpointed financial and school reports that could be reused in developing the new web-based application.

Next, i3solutions evaluated various technologies for the new e-commerce platform and crafted a detailed Business Intelligence implementation strategy for the online delivery of reports to schools and staff. We provided recommendations for a migration and integration approach to accommodate the legacy application platform built in Cold Fusion. The new subscription-based reporting system was designed to support subscription purchases and additional reporting services, seamlessly interfacing with the existing system. This integration allows schools to purchase subscriptions, generate, view, and print reports, thereby enhancing service delivery while maintaining continuity with legacy systems.

Measurable Benefits
and Business Impact

FSBPT is well on its way to becoming a paperless organization, significantly cutting the costs associated with generating and mailing reports. By automating its reporting processes, the organization has alleviated staff workloads, saving at least 140 man-hours per year that were previously dedicated to manual report generation.

This new subscription-based service not only provides an additional revenue stream for FSBPT but also delivers higher quality information to school administrators on demand. Instead of waiting for reports at predetermined intervals, administrators now receive timely, accurate data whenever they need it, enhancing decision-making and operational efficiency.
