General Dynamics was facing an issue concerning the consistency and timeliness of its performance appraisal and salary review processes. They had developed a well-defined and complex process for its managers to complete performance and salary reviews, but one of the main concerns was that the processes were not consistently followed by all of the managers and, in some cases, the timeliness of reviews were delayed. In order to streamline this process for managers and, in turn, ensure adherence to the established standards, General Dynamics sought to develop an automated web-based system to manage performance appraisals, enforce consistency, and improve the timeliness of reviews.

The Solution

i3solutions designed and developed an online system built on the Microsoft .NET framework to automate General Dynamics’ review process. The system allows its human resources department to define review cycles for the individual business units in the company and setup email notifications when reviews are due. The system automatically notifies managers that they need to log in and complete reviews, then systematically takes the manager through the completion of the performance review.

Once the performance review is completed, it must go through an approval process before the salary review can begin. Upon approval, the system then calculates the appropriate merit increase range eligible for a given job grade and provides this information to the manager and to human resources. The system also maintains a salary budget for each department to ensure that managers stay within the allotted pay increase percentage for their department.
